Crossfit is all about endurance and power. And when it comes to the drugs you can use and cannot use, knowledge is power, too.
Performance enhancing drugs have been a controversial issue in sport for a long, long time. While a number of budding athletes are driven to using them due to intense pressure, the reality is that using banned drugs will not only compromise your future in sport, it can also cause irreversible damage to your body.
The problem is, if you’re looking for some new supplements to take, how do you know which drugs are banned and which are not? In this article, Beast Gear helps you out as we take a look at the 10 drugs banned by CrossFit.
Adderall
You might have heard stories of desperate U.S. students taking Adderall to revise through the night for their midterms.
But while Adderall is legal as a drug that treats narcolepsy and boosts alertness, it’s banned by CrossFit, primarily because it enhances the athletes performance.
Testolone - RAD140
Testolone is a research compound that could treat cancer. Because it boosts the effects of testosterone, it’s banned by CrossFit. Avoid.
Endurobol - GW 501516
Endurobol is a bad boy research chemical that was thought to prevent metabolic disorders and stop tumours from developing.
However, it’s since been proven to actually cause cancer to develop.
Not only is it not safe, it also boosts endurance hugely. And that’s enough to put it on the CrossFit naughty step.
Erythropoietin
Don’t even try to pronounce this one.
It’s a hormone that treats kidney disease.
It’s also used by competitive cyclists.
It’s also resulted in the deaths of competitive cyclists.
For good reason, it’s banned by CrossFit.
Ostarine
Ostarine was originally developed to help folk battle muscle-wasting conditions. It’s a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator, and it’s totally banned by CrossFit.
Human Growth Hormone
Human growth hormone performs a number of functions. It regulates fat metabolism, sugar metabolism, muscle growth and more.
It’s also used to treat a generic disorder known as Turner’s syndrome.
But it’s the drugs ability to increase strength and muscle mass that makes it so appealing to athletes.
Avoid it, though. It’s a CrossFit no-no.
Anavar
Megan Benzik is just one athlete who was caught using Anavar. She was subsequently banned for 4 years.
Unfortunately, there have been many more just like her, and it’s one of the most commonly used oral anabolic steroids.
It has a dark side, though, and can cause stroke and heart attacks.
Anabolic Agents
Numerous anabolic agents are banned by CrossFit, and they include testosterone, zeranol, tibolone, stanozolol and more.
Anastrozole
Anastrozole does some good things for the world, and it can help to treat breast cancer.
However, because it boosts the effects of testosterone, it’s banned by CrossFit.
Ligandrol
Taking ligandrol will land you with at least a 4 year sanction - no arguments.
It’s an investigational selective androgen receptor modulator that helps to treat osteoporosis, but it’s exclusively banned in CrossFit.
Conclusion
All the 10 drugs listed above will boost your athletic performance. None of them are safe, however, and they’re all banned by CrossFit.

If you’re still planning to take supplements, it’s really important that you carry out proper research beforehand. Stay safe, stay legal - and keep beasting it.
